The 114th United States Open is right around the corner at Pinehurst No. 2, Pinehurst, North Carolina. Unfortunately, and not without expectation, Tiger Woods will not be present. On his website, Tiger Woods has announced that he is not ready for his return to the world of competitive golf. He is taking rehabilitation from his latest injury with caution, maximizing his attempt at longevity in the sport.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be there because I’m not yet physically able to play competitive golf,” Woods said. “I’d like to convey my regrets to the USGA leadership, the volunteers and the fans that I won’t be at Pinehurst. The U.S. Open is very important to me, and I know it’s going to be a great week. Despite missing the first two majors, and several other important tournaments, I remain very optimistic about this year and my future.”

Tiger Woods also missed the 2011 US Open while recovering from knee and Achilles injuries. Overall this will be the six major championship that Tiger has missed due to a myriad of injuries throughout his storied and well documented career. Tiger continues to charge towards the all-time record for major championship currently held by Jack Nicklaus.

There is no timetable for return since his condition is top priority maximizing his health for the long haul. The next major on the tour calendar will be The Open Championship (British Open) at Royal Liverpool from 17-20 July. The last time The Open Championship was held at Royal Liverpool in 2006, Tiger Woods won by a two stroke margin.
