Tiger Woods has kept the golf world on hold over the last couple of weeks. He did not know if he was going to be able tee it up in the 2014 Masters due to his back injury. He recently announced he would have a decision very soon. Very soon has come to pass as Tiger Woods has announced on his website that he will be missing the 2014 Masters. It will be the first Masters that he skips since 1994. He released the following statement:

“After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done.

I’d like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters. It’s a week that’s very special to me. It also looks like I’ll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy.

I’d also like to thank the fans for their support and concern. It’s very kind and greatly appreciated. This is frustrating, but it’s something my doctors advised me to do for my immediate and long-term health.”

Tiger had what is called a successful surgery to repair a pinched nerve in his back and plan to begin rehabilitation and soft-tissue replacement in the next couple of weeks. It is too early to predict when Tiger will return to competition but any sooner than the summer should not be expected.
